Is the Nestie available in different widths?
Yes, the Nestie is available as a single bed with 970mm width or as a double bed with options of 1,070mm, 1200mm or 1,370mm width. The length, other specifications and configuration options remain the same.
Is it 400kg maximum weight capacity regardless of the width option?
Yes
Which width option is right for me?
The single option is a great choice for rooms that are tight on space. The double options give more space and the ability to accommodate partners too. If you need to move the Nestie between rooms then the 1,070mm version is likely to be the best option as it fits through most 1.5 door widths; however, we recommend that you measure all internal doorways, corridors and turning circles before proceeding. The 1,200mm option is a small queen-size double-width and would be the best option to accommodate partners in rooms where space is still at a premium. The 1,370mm option gives more space for two people to comfortably stay together but will obviously take up a bit more space in the room. Your best friend here is a tape measure. Measure it out and make sure that you have sufficient space to move safely around the bed without restrictions when all other equipment is in-situ.
Is the double option a single or twin platform (can each side be adjusted independently)?
It’s a single platform. There is one mattress and one set of adjustments. Twin platforms are not recommended for use in acute care settings.
Does the Nestie come with side rails?
They are available as an option. The standard bed does not include them but they can be added to any configuration. An example of the ¾ folding side rail option is shown below. Others are available upon request. Please note that adding side rails will increase the overall width of the bed by approx. 10cm.
Is the Nestie bed fit for use in hospitals?
When considering a bed for a Bereavement Suite or a Birth Centre, you will probably be looking for a bed that has a “home-from-home” appearance. When searching for these beds you may come across beds with wooden head and footboards that have a less clinical appearance but they must be fit for use in hospitals. Many of these will be beds designed for home use and will not be suitable or approved for use in hospitals. The Nestie is a 4 section electric profiling bed that is designed for use in acute care environments and compliant with the international safety standard of IEC 60601-2-52.
Does the Nestie have an integrated CPR function?
Yes and this is actually quite important. Any bed supporting acute hospital in-patient stays needs to have integrated CPR to be compliant with the hospital’s resus’ policy. All beds must be able to quickly return to a flat position in the event of CPR resuscitation being required.
What headboard and footboard options are there?
You can select wooden effect boards to create a more homely appearance or select more traditional hospital appearance boards if you need to transport the bed a lot and need hand holders to grab for steering. There is a selection of 8 different colours to choose from. For Birth Centres and Bereavement Suites, a popular combination is a high headboard and low footboard, but the choice is yours and there is no additional cost for your choice.
Is the Nestie mattress waterproof?
Yes, it’s waterproof, breathable, two-way stretch, has welded seams and is Crib 5 fire retardant. It is also zipped to allow internal inspection and the zips are covered by a waterfall flap to prevent fluid ingres. It is a hospital-specification mattress that is infection-control compliant and also very comfortable.
Can it be cleaned with chlorine-based cleaning solutions and/or Clinell wipes?
Yes. However, to maximise the life span of the mattress cover it is important that the best practice guidance detailed in the BHTA’s industry standard document “Protect, Rinse & Dry, is routinely practised. Click HERE to view.
Which electric functions are operated by the handset?
The handset electrically adjusts the backrest, thigh section & hi-lo functions. It also has an auto-contour function (to raise or lower the backrest and thigh section together) and a trendelenburg/reverse trendelenburg function. The handset is backlit so it can be controlled in dimly lit conditions and with the integrated battery, it can be controlled without mains power.
How do you use the Nestie bed for suturing?
The Nestie is equipped with a medirail on the foot end of the bed, where two brackets are attached. These brackets can be moved along the rail to be made wider/narrower, to suit. Lithotomy poles then slot into the brackets and are tightened to secure the height position. The leg holder can then be rotated or angled to optimise the position. The footboard can be left in-situ and the poles can be stored in the brackets all the time if you wish, but you may prefer to store them separately to preserve the homely appearance of the bed. The footboard is easily removed when you wish to suture. The height of the bed can be raised to make it the right height for the suturing person and knees can sit comfortable underneath the frame. TIP -Using the reverse trendelenburg feature enables the perineum to be tilted upwards for a better suturing angle. The Nestie is also supplied with a Croyde Positioning Pillow to provide a supported, comfortable backrest position during lithotomy positioning. You can watch a short video by clicking HERE.
