What is the Lifetherm 2003 used for?

The Lifetherm 2003 is a heating bed designed to warm infants up to 8kg, helping prevent excessive heat loss.

Who can operate the Lifetherm 2003?

Only trained personnel with knowledge of the device and its risks and benefits.


Operation

How do I turn on the Lifetherm 2003 warming bed?

To turn on the Lifetherm 2003:

  1. Plug in the mains cable
  2. Switch on the main power
  3. Turn on the ON/OFF switch at the base of the unit
  4. Turn on the ON/OFF button on the control panels

How is the temperature set?

Use the arrow keys in the “SET” field on the control panel to select a temperature between 28°C and 38.5°C.

How long does the Lifetherm 2003 Warming Bed take to reach the set temperature?

The Lifetherm warming bed takes approximately 90 minutes to reach set temperature.

Can the warming bed surface be tilted for Trendelenburg position?

Yes, using the tilt buttons on the left of the control panel to adjust to "head-up" or "head-down" positions.

Is height adjustment available?

Yes, the deck height can be adjusted between 93cm and 118cm using the foot pedals.

How do I switch between % and mW/cm² heat output settings?

Use the lower button on the control panel to toggle between % and mW/cm². The selected mode is indicated by the corresponding LED.

What is the default heat output in manual mode?

30% (equivalent to 10 mW/cm²) is the default. Exceeding this requires confirmation via the “Mute Alarm” button.

What happens if heat output exceeds 30%?

An audible and visual alarm is triggered. After 15 minutes, the device automatically returns to 30% output unless reconfirmed.

Can I monitor the infant’s temperature using the device?

No. Lifetherm 2003 does not include skin temperature monitoring as standard. Temperature must be monitored externally by medical staff.

A skin temperature probe is available as an optional extra.


Safety

What safety precautions should be taken during use?

Never leave the infant unattended, ensure barriers are properly installed, and monitor temperature regularly.

Are there any contraindications?

Do not use skin-temperature regulation for infants in shock or with fever.

What happens if the radiant warmer is covered?

If the radiant warmer is covered it poses a fire hazard. The radiant warmer must never be covered.
