Product Use & Setup
1. What are the Croyde Universal Birth Pool Steps used for?
They are designed to help women and birthing people safely enter and exit a birth pool, featuring a supportive handle and stable step structure.
2. Can the steps be moved easily?
Yes, the steps can be tipped onto their wheels (when the handle is locked) in both the 'storage' and 'in-use' positions for easy transport.
3. How do I switch between the storage and in-use positions?
Engage or disengage the handle locking mechanism by following this eight-step process:
1. With step flat on the ground, engage handle lock by pushing firmly down in the vertical position.
2. To transport steps, pull handle up in the vertical position to disengage handle lock.
3. Guide handle towards floor, through locking mechanism.
4. Once horizontal, push handle firmly towards back of steps, engaging handle lock.
5. Once locked, use handle to lift the step into the storage position; this can now be moved.
6. Once in position, ensure handle is still locked, then stand to the side of step and guide down to the floor.
7. To put handle in vertical position, unlock by firmly pulling the handle horizontally away from the steps.
8. Guide handle, up towards the vertical position and push down firmly to engage handle lock.
4. Can I lift the steps by myself?
No. The steps are heavy (25kg net weight), so lifting should never be done solo to avoid injury or damage.
5. Can the handle be used to lift the steps?
Only when unpacking the steps and with the foam transport blocks in place. Otherwise, the handle should not be used to lift the steps to prevent accidents.
Safety & Use Guidelines
6. Can the handle be used to pull oneself out of the pool?
No. The handle is designed for support when stepping onto and off of the steps, not for pulling.
7. Are the steps safe to use when wet?
Yes, but please note that the surface may become slippery when wet. Use only with bare feet or non-slip pool shoes to reduce the risk of slipping. Always ensure that the women and birthing people are assisted when entering/exiting the birth pool.
8. What is the weight capacity of the steps?
The steps can support up to 200kg.
9. Are the steps suitable for use on all surfaces?
No, they should only be used on flat, even surfaces.
10. The top step surface is domed or uneven - is this a defect?
No - the top step surface may appear slightly domed or undulated due to the internal support structure and the moulding technique used during manufacturing. This is completely normal and not considered a defect. It does not affect the safety or functionality of the steps.
Cleaning & Maintenance
11. How should the steps be cleaned?
Use locally approved cleaning and disinfection products. We recommend disinfecting with sodium hypochlorite up to a maximum concentration of 10,000ppm of available chlorine. Always rinse with clean water to remove chemical residue and dry completely before storage. Never use abrasive materials.
12. Will repeated cleaning damage the labels?
Repeated cleaning may cause labels and/or printed logos to fade, but this is not covered under warranty.
Warranty & Support
13. What is the warranty period for the steps?
There is a 2-year limited guarantee covering defects due to faulty workmanship or materials.
14. What actions can void the warranty?
Using non-approved cleaning products, abrasive materials, causing physical damage, or poor hygiene/maintenance can void the warranty.
15. How do I make a warranty claim?
UK customers can call 01367 241194 or email info@croydemedical.co.uk. International customers should contact their local distributor. Images or returns may be requested for inspection.
