General Information & Intended Use

What is a QED Combi Warmer?

A QED Combi Warmer is a temperature-controlled warming cabinet designed to safely warm medical items such as irrigation fluids, lotions, creams, blankets and (where applicable) contrast media for clinical use.

Is the QED Combi Warmer a medical device?

No. The cabinet is a Class I electrical appliance and is not classified as a medical device under Directive 93/42/EEC.

What items can be warmed in a QED Combi Warmer?

Depending on configuration, QED Combi Warmers may be used to warm:

  • Irrigation fluids, lotions and creams

  • Hospital cotton blankets and drapes

Can QED Combi Warmers be used to warm blood or blood products?

No. QED Combi Warmers must not be used to warm blood or blood products under any circumstances.

Temperature Ranges & Performance

What temperature ranges do QED Combi Warmers operate at?

Typical operating limits depend on cabinet configuration:

  • Fluid warming: up to 60 °C

  • Blanket warming: up to 80 °C

These limits are factory-set and cannot be exceeded by the user.

How accurate is the temperature control?

Temperature stability is typically better than ±0.2 °C once the cabinet has stabilised.

How long does the cabinet take to warm up?

Warm-up time from cold is typically under 30 minutes, depending on cabinet size and load.

Does opening the door affect temperature?

Yes. Opening the door causes a temporary temperature drop, but normal recovery is typically achieved within 3 minutes.

Operation & Controls

How do I switch on a QED Combi Warmer?

Connect the cabinet to the mains supply and use the green power switch. The digital controller will automatically regulate the cabinet to the set temperature.

How do I change the set temperature?

  1. Press the “P” button once

  2. Use the up/down arrows to select the new temperature

  3. Press “P” again to save
The display will return to normal after a few seconds.

Why does the temperature sometimes rise slightly above the set point during warm-up?

This is normal during initial warm-up from cold. Once the cabinet stabilises, this will no longer occur.

What does the ‘Heating Active’ light indicate?

It shows that the heater is cycling on to maintain the selected temperature efficiently.

Loading & Daily Use

How should items be loaded into the cabinet?

Items should be evenly distributed on shelves, allowing unrestricted airflow. Overfilling should be avoided to prevent uneven heating.

How long do items take to reach temperature?

This depends on the item size, starting temperature, cabinet load and set point. Items placed in a fully loaded cabinet will take longer to warm.

Can opened or partially used fluids be placed in the cabinet?

No. Opened or partially used bottles or bags must not be placed back into the cabinet.

Why are baskets recommended for some items?

Baskets prevent fluid bags or blankets from blocking airflow and help maintain even temperature distribution.

Safety & Electrical Information

Does the cabinet have overheat protection?

Yes. An automatic overheat cut-out is set approximately 3°C above the operating temperature, with an additional failsafe thermal protection device.

What should I do if the overheat warning light activates?

Check whether the temperature is still rising. If the issue does not resolve after allowing the cabinet to stabilise, switch it off and contact us.

Can the cabinet be used in all environments?

No. QED Combi Warmers must not be used in volatile or hazardous environments.

Are there any user-serviceable parts?

No. All repairs and internal servicing must be carried out by trained and qualified personnel.

Cleaning & Maintenance

How should the cabinet be cleaned?

Clean only when disconnected from the mains supply, using a soft damp cloth or approved disinfectant wipes. Leave the door open to dry before reuse.

What should I do if fluid spills inside the cabinet?

Clean spills immediately. If fluid may have entered the fan or control area, disconnect the cabinet from the mains and remove it from service until checked.

How often should the cabinet be serviced?

Annual preventative inspection and calibration by a qualified engineer is recommended to ensure accuracy and safety.

Troubleshooting & Support

What should I do if the cabinet does not power on?

Check the power cable, socket and switch. If the issue persists, contact us for support.

What if the cabinet is powered but not heating?

Check the displayed temperature, set point and overheat indicator. If the cabinet remains cold, contact us.
